Superintendent's Message

Mr. Chad Gee

Chad Gee
Superintendent

Welcome back for the 2018-2019 school year.  We are excited to begin this year as we have many improvements that are underway to benefit and provide better learning environments for our students.

YISD has contracted with T.F. Harper and Associates to renovate the play-a-torium for our elementary students during P.E., youth sports, and assemblies and to renovate parts of the field house.  Additionally the track has been resurfaced and marked, the Ag building has been renovated, we have increased our Career and Technical Education (CTE) space and offerings through Ag and Family Consumer Science classes, and the district is looking to improve the learning environments on all campuses through facilities improvements.  We have contracted with Reliance Architecture to develop conceptual plans to add on to the high school and junior high and renovate other areas of those buildings.  By consolidating the secondary campuses and moving the elementary to the junior high building, multiple facilities needs would be addressed and allow for long term planning.  The play-a-torium, fieldhouse, Ag building, and track should all be completed by August 20th and schematic plans are currently being developed for the high school, junior high, and elementary campuses.

In addition to better environments, we are also focused on safer environments as we renovate and develop plans for the future with this goal in mind.  We will be implementing several safety measures this year with more to come with future development.  First, we will have new signage and speed bumps placed throughout the roads between campuses.  TX DOT has come out and inspected signage and school zones with a few changes coming in the placement of signs on the major roads that intersect through our district.  Second, we will have a new check in system at each campus that will require all visitors to go through at all times.  Third, we have implemented new safety plans and procedures throughout the district using SafePlans.  Fourth, our staff has undergone extensive training in multiple areas of safety, first aid, and student mental health.  Finally, we are working to establish a mutual partnership with local law enforcement to facilitate collaborative and proactive interaction between them, our students, and our staff.

Over the last two years we have seen students come back to our district, we have been able to offer more opportunities for students, and we continue to focus on the needs of our students.  By doing so and by meeting students where they are and working to help them get to where they need to be, our purpose is student centered for student success.  Our theme for this year is "Purpose" and our staff is dedicated to the purpose of educating our students.  We look forward to a great school year and we look forward to serving our students with these goals in mind.

Sincerely,

Chad Gee

Superintendent
