Yorktown ISD received a report from local law enforcement a short while ago regarding a possible threat against school buses of area school districts, with at least one reference to our district. Although these threats cannot be considered credible at this time, and have not been substantiated by the police department, law enforcement is investigating them as they do all threats. Additionally, because of the threats, we have asked for and received a police presence on each of our campuses. All of our students are safe and secure on our campuses at this time and under the watch of additional police personnel. The safety and security of our staff members is our highest priority at all times.
We will be maintaining a regular school schedule for the day, and we will release at normal time. We will also be putting additional staff members on each bus, which will be escorted on its full route by a patrol car. However, if you would like to pick up your children rather than have them ride the bus home, you may do so.
Students picked up early will not be counted with an unexcused absence.
Once again, although we have no substantiation of any credible threat against our students, we are taking all precautions necessary to ensure that all our students get home safely.
